Fabulous Home Office Installation
I collaborated with graphic designer Morgan McConnell and financial VP Gordon Larin to transform a manky 90’s attic into a clean, serene office for two.
The desks and low bookcase are natural bamboo, and have curved corners both for form and function - the curves are calming and gentle, and avoid thigh bruises from sharp corners! The low bookshelf serves triple duty as a planter box and safety feature.
The two desks were the first priority. They needed to be spacious, yet not take up the whole room. The two “legs” are curved to match the radius of the curved tops, and the far right corner of Gordon’s desk is curved as well. This was accomplished using the art of coopering, an enjoyable challenge that produced graceful results.
The desks are supported along the walls with brackets made of salvaged pipe. I cut and threaded the pipe into L brackets and then had them powder coated white - they’re like hidden gems. Pipe threading is a great arm workout fyi.
The bookshelf serves triple duty as a planter box and safety rail for the ladder down to the rest of the house. It’s backless for the most part, except for 5 cheekily painted rectangles. The main corner of the shelf is rounded to tie in visually with the desks, and to avoid bruising!
Jëtsons Shelf
The finishing touch. These were constructed first with an internal “rib cage” - the many pieces for these were cut out by a CNC router, and assembled by yours truly. Then flexi-ply was used to skin the surface. They’re light-weight and very strong, not to mention sexy as hell.
